Free Indeed

John 8:36:
If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
You see, freedom is not defined by default as freedom to sin! It is freedom from the Law, unto Christ. Hebrews 10:10, 14 says:
10By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. 14For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.
“Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the Law” Paul says in Galatians 3. This is an issue Paul dealt with in most of his Epistles, because it is essential to Christianity. In another place Paul says
“For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father”. Romans 8:15.
It natural for us as human beings to want to set some rules, and this aligns with the Law naturally. But once you bring the law into the equation, it takes away faith. The Bible says “The law is not based on faith; on the contrary,
"The man who does these things will live by them” Galatians 3:12.
Faith and belief is mentioned in the Old Testament lest than 50 times; but in the New Testament over 400 times. This is a vast topic, but I’m going to briefly stop here. Isaiah 30:15 says: For thus saith the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: and ye would not. Freedom is the rest which we are called unto. Jesus said come unto all ye that labor and are heavy laden (from the law) and I will give you rest. As I said, I can go on and on. In the Garden of Eden God created man according to his image; to function like God. There was no Law. In fact, God forbade Adam to partake of the Law (the tree of the knowledge of good and bad). God said the day you eat or partake of this system you shall surely die. Adam was living by the word of God – like God – you can by faith. But man accepted the lie and ATE of the tree IN ORDER TO BECOME like God. That is what the law is all about. From that day, mankind became entangled in the system of DOING in order to BE. This wasn’t God’s choice. Man chose PERFORMANCE instead of FAITH/BELIEF. As a result, man was chased out of Eden – and eventually God put man’s choice into stones: the 10 commandments. But fortunately, God wasn’t done with us. He had a plan:
“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland”.
We got lost in the wilderness, trying to found our way on our own. But God says he’s going to spring up a way in the desert, and make streams in the wasteland. Christ calls unto us, come unto me all ye that labor. We should heed his call. Let’s return and rest. Let’s put aside every weight of self righteousness, and lift our eyes unto him. When we allow our hearts to receive his mercy and love, we receive the revelation of who He is. And that revelation will set us free. Free from the Law and from death; and free unto Christ and the Law of Life which is in Him. When that happens, we are born of God, and not by the will of the flesh, nor the will of man. This is our calling. Therefore, if the Son makes you free, you are free indeed.
